Patrick vs. The Great Pancake
The Great Pancake Video
So there is a local restaurant near us in Lapel. They serve a pancake that is about 16 inches in diameter and 3/4 - 1 inch in thickness. When we usually go there we order one and split it between up to four people. We have always joked about eating a whole one. In fact, the waitress, Betty, says there are less than a handful of people who have done it that knew of. Well that sounded like a challenge to me. But when? Well, I've been thinking about a good time since last fall. And about three weeks ago, I thought of the perfect time. See, our church has a Fat Tuesday party every year before we move into the Lenten season. It is a night of games, skits, videos, trivia and anything else we can come up with. So, I thought this would be the perfect promo video - me to tape myself eating this entire pancake with a clock showing how long it has taken. Then quick dubbing it and throwing some music over it to pull it all together. So here is the final product.
The song obviously made the video - without it it would not have been quite as impressive (be careful though it is catchy). It is called "Pancake Man" by Catfish Hodge (great name, right?).
As you watch the video you will also notice a few things.
One it looks like Asher is taking bites, not true, actually the little turd was trying to give me his pancake. I wouldn't allow it.
Also, I start strong. I knew if it was going to happen I had to have done or mostly done in the first 20 minutes or game over. So I had over half done in the 1st 20 minutes. The last 1/4 of the pancake took me about 15 minutes alone. You can see that it takes me minutes between bites to get that beast down. Each bite for the last 15 minutes I had to focus on, b/c with every bite my gag reflex was about to erupt.
Also, the milk and water that I drink are instrumental to my success. The pancake filled me up. The drinks helped to push them down.
At the beginnng of the clip, I close my eyes for a second. That was my prayer of "God forgive my gluttony, and help me through this." Probably not a prayer that God hears.
Towards the end of the clip, I do this air punching thing. That was my response to the "Eye of the Tiger" that was being sung by those at the table. The spirit of Rocky came into me and the pancake became the impenetrable Russian standing across the ring.
I also make a motion like I'm holding something towards the end. That was me hallucinating and giving my acceptance speech at the Oscar's for best short film.
And one final note, this ginormous pancake costs only $1.75. You can't buy pancakes anywhere else after you have had this one. Enjoy the video, pass it on to friends. I don't plan on doing this again, unless it for a noble cause.

The Tooth Fairy
Patrick pulled Jada's first loose tooth tonight...We thought you might like to see pictures of the victory. As she went up the stairs to bed, she stopped to ask one last question, "The Tooth Fairy is nice, right?"

Welcome
Well it is about time we get a family blog started to keep friends and family updated. So we'll give this a stab and see how it goes. We might be a little slow going getting things started.
